Give Us A Wave Charities

The World’s Toughest Row is not only an unbelievable challenge to take on, but it also allows teams across the world to raise an incredible amount of money for charity.  To date The World’ s Toughest Row has generated charity donations of over £16,000,000 and counting! Give Us A Wave are keen to add to this and are proud of their commitment to making a positive difference in the world. That's why they have carefully selected three charitable organisations to partner with, all dedicated to causes close to their hearts.  Being able to raise money for these charities will give the team added motivation, cause and determination to give their absolute all to this arduous race.  The charity partners of choice are; The Marine Conservation Society, The Grand Appeal and The Exeter Chiefs Foundation.

The Grand Appeal is a charity chosen by Grant. They are the official Bristol Children’s Hospital charity, who are committed to saving the lives of sick children and supporting their families.  They created Cots for Tots in 2010 to support and raise money for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at St Michael’s Hospital in Bristol. Together, they have one vision for the future: to ensure every sick child and baby from across the South West has access to the very best care, 365 days a year.  The Grand Appeal put Bristol Children’s Hospital into everything they do.  They support the hospital through medical research, equipment, music, play and art therapy, family accommodation and art enhancements.

Bristol Children’s Hospital is a very special place, and The Grand Appeal are proud to be its dedicated charity.

It cares for over 100,000 patients each year from across the South West and South Wales, covering the single largest geographic area of any children’s hospital in England.

Babies, children, and young adults with highly complex medical conditions –from rare genetic disorders, neurological conditions, and congenital heart disease to traumatic injuries, cancer, and kidney disease –are cared for around the clock by extraordinary staff.

The Marine Conservation Society is a charity chosen by Tom.  They are an environmental charity by and for sea lovers. They're working toward a cleaner, better protected, healthier ocean: one we can all enjoy. They take an all-encompassing approach to conservation by combining scientific research, advocacy, education, and community engagement to protect marine ecosystems and promote sustainable management of marine resources.

Give Us A Wave are all motivated by making a difference to our oceans and to our planet. The health of the oceans is key.

By Rowing the Atlantic, Give Us A Wave will raise the profile of the importance of our Oceans and the great work that The Marine Conservation Society is doing to solve our climate crisis, protect marine wildlife and clean up our oceans. Give Us A Wave will be raising funds to help the great work that the charity does.

Supporters of Give Us A Wave will see the team rowing for our oceans.

The Exeter Chiefs Foundation, chosen by Tim, is a charity that exists with the sole aim of helping other charities.  All of the money they raise is donated to worthy causes in and around the city with a focus on supporting ‘tangible’ investments. These have included funding building and renovation works, the installation of play equipment, IT suites, a range of vehicles – from minibuses to boats, community kitchen hubs, specialised access equipment to name but a few.

Founded by Exeter Rugby club Chairman Tony Rowe CBE, the team of trustees is drawn from the Chiefs board of directors and the business community.  As well as deciding on how the charity’s money is shared, the trustees organise a number of fundraising events each year to add funds to the pot for people to apply for grants.

The Foundation is within its 11th year and to date has raised close to £3m and helped over 150 projects, charities and organisations.

By Rowing the Atlantic, as a team one of Give Us A Wave’s goals is to raise money to support the local community and local charities. A wide variety of charities and good causes benefit from the work of the Foundation and that is what appeals about raising funds for the Exeter Chiefs Foundation. If Give Us A Wave can make a difference with every pull of the oars as they cross the Atlantic then that will be where they want to be as a team!

ANDYSMANCLUB want to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health and create a judgment-free, confidential space where men can be open about the storms in their lives.  They aim to achieve this through weekly, free-to-attend peer-to-peer support groups for men aged over 18.  ANDYSMANCLUB takes its name from Andrew Roberts, a man who sadly took his own life aged 23 in early 2016. Andy’s family had no inkling that he was suffering or struggling to the extent that he would do this, and as a result looked deeper into male suicide and men’s mental health. They soon discovered that male suicide is the biggest killer of men under 50, with male mental health surrounded by well-ingrained cultural stigma in the UK.  ANDYSMANCLUB soon come to fruition and groups now operate nationwide.

ANDYSMANCLUB is Rhys’ charity of choice, and holds a special place in his heart after losing a close friend to suicide. This deeply personal connection will motivate him to push through and make a meaningful impact.

Give Us A Wave are proud to support these incredible charitable organisations who are making a tangible impact in the world.  Together, we can create a wave of change that touches the lives of countless individuals and makes the world a better place for everyone.
