OUR GOAL
We are four teammates, united by a single goal: to cross the Atlantic as safely and as fast as possible, while embracing every challenge the ocean throws at us. We row not just for ourselves, but for the charities we support, the communities we represent, and the lessons we’ll carry forward for life.
GRANT MCgregor
-
Grant is originally from Irvine, Scotland, but now calls Bristol home with his wife and two children. A five-a-side football regular, he’s not as active as he once was—but that’s about to change in a big way. After watching a friend complete the World’s Toughest Row in 2022, he knew this was a challenge he had to take on.
A PADI-qualified diver, Grant loves the ocean and is excited about the chance to spot marine life on the crossing—though he'd rather not get too close. But beyond the adventure, he’s rowing for The Grand Appeal, supporting Bristol Children’s Hospital and the life-changing work they do for sick children and their families.
Biggest concern? Definitely the blisters. Biggest motivation? Proving to himself (and his kids) that anything is possible.
Grants Stats:
Age: 43
Height: 5”10
Weight: 90kg
Tom Curtis
-
Tom lives in Bristol with his wife and two children. A football fan, trail runner and keen motorcyclist, he’s about to find out if rowing earns a spot on that list too. He’s excited for the adventure, the wildlife encounters, and the vastness of the open ocean—but he’s not quite as thrilled about the broken sleep that comes with it.
Taking on the World’s Toughest Row is more than just a physical challenge for Tom—it’s an opportunity to push himself in ways he never has before. He wants to show his children that life is full of opportunities for adventure, and that the toughest challenges often lead to the most rewarding experiences.
Rowing for The Marine Conservation Society, Tom is committed to protecting the oceans he’ll be crossing. His biggest challenge? Adjusting to life without solid ground. His biggest goal? To prove that the greatest experiences come from stepping outside your comfort zone.
Toms Stats:
Age: 43
Height: 5”7
Weight: 74kg
Tim Stone
-
Tim lives on the eastern edge of Dartmoor, where he’s well-acquainted with wild weather—even if it’s mostly rain, not ocean swells. A former Royal Marine, he thrives on outdoor challenges, and despite a rugby career that left him with dodgy knees and a suspect hip, he’s never been one to sit still. At 63 years old, Tim is the oldest member of the team, proving that adventure and endurance don’t have an age limit.
With 15 London Marathons to his name, Tim is no stranger to pushing himself for a good cause. But rowing across the Atlantic is something entirely different—it’s not just about fitness, but mental resilience, adaptability, and the ability to endure when everything is against you. His experience brings a different perspective to the team, offering wisdom, patience, and a deep understanding of what it means to push through adversity.
Having followed the World’s Toughest Row for years, 2025 is his time to finally take it on. He’s looking forward to the open seas, the test of endurance, and raising a substantial amount for charity. Rowing for The Exeter Chiefs Foundation, Tim is committed to giving back to local causes.
His biggest challenge? To rise to all that the Atlantic Ocean will throw at us and to cross that ocean! His biggest goal? To prove that age is no barrier to adventure—and that resilience, not youth, is what truly carries you to the finish line.
Tim’s Stats:
Age: 62
Height: 6”3’
Weight: 87kg
Rhys Owen
-
Rhys thrives on adventure and is always searching for the next challenge—which is exactly why he’s taking on the World’s Toughest Row. The youngest member of the team, he’s based in Portsmouth, serving as a Marine Engineer in the Royal Navy. When he’s not working, he’s chasing adventure through skiing, rugby, and converting his campervan for off-grid escapes.
Rowing across the Atlantic will push Rhys further than ever before, both physically and mentally. He’s ready to ‘embrace the chaos’ —the wildlife, the storms, the exhaustion—knowing that every stroke carries a purpose far beyond the finish line. But this challenge isn’t just about endurance for Rhys; it’s about perspective. Spending weeks at sea, stripped of modern comforts, will reshape his outlook on life, resilience, and what truly matters.
Rhys is rowing for ANDYSMANCLUB, a cause deeply personal to him after losing a childhood best friend to suicide.
His biggest goal? To emerge from this journey with a renewed sense of purpose, strength, and connection.
Rhys’ Stats:
Age: 23
Height: 5”7’
Weight: 74kg
how we push through challenges
Rowing across an ocean isn’t just about strength—it’s about understanding yourself and your teammates. We know that fatigue, stress, and isolation will test us. That’s why we’ve committed to open communication, honesty, and staying connected as a team, no matter what the ocean throws at us.
Our team values
-
We will embrace hardship, knowing that the toughest moments define us. No matter how exhausted, frustrated, or challenged we feel—we keep moving forward.
-
We will take ownership of our actions, our mindset, and our impact on the team. We hold ourselves and each other to the highest standards.
-
The ocean will test us, but our attitude is our choice. We commit to lifting each other up, staying solution-focused, and finding humour when it gets tough.
-
No ego, no excuses—just teamwork. Every decision we make is for the good of the crew.
-
We will speak openly, listen actively, and address challenges head-on. No issue is too small, no conversation too difficult. Any issue gets spoken about, and resolved on deck.
-
We will recognize that each of us will face different struggles, and we support one another without judgment. Every teammate’s experience is equally valued.
-
This challenge is bigger than any one of us. We commit fully to the training, the preparation, and the mission.
